The All-American Futurity & Derby: Racing into the Last Leg

The All-American Futurity is Ruidoso Downs’ signature horse racing event, and we are now speeding into the final leg of the All-American Triple Crown series in Ruidoso, New Mexico. The All-American Futurity could easily be called the “super bowl” of quarter horse racing. Every year, trainers, breeders, jockeys and, of course, their noble steeds prepare tirelessly for this event. In 2015, the purses reached a whopping $3 million for the talented two-year-old that wins the race, making it the richest race for two-year-old horses in North America. So, this is a HUGE deal!

The All-American Futurity began in 1959 after Gene Hensley, who had just purchased majority share of the Ruidoso Race Track and Casino, collaborated with other track owners to create the richest race for Quarter horses. The purse started at $129,686 and has since grown to become the first million-dollar horse race in history. There have been many notable performances here, including Special Effort, who is the only horse in history to win the Quarter Horse Triple Crown.

Although we won’t be seeing a second Triple Crown winner this year, we have high hopes for the horse/jockey teams that are going to be participating in the upcoming All-American Trials and All-American Futurity on August 17th-18th & September 3rd, respectively. You can watch coverage of the All-American Trials exclusively on RIDE TV GO! The top 10 fastest times of the All-American Trials qualify for the finals, which you will be available to you LIVE on RIDE TV GO or through the RIDE TV Network. We are holding our breath to see which lucky duo will take home the $3 million purse and a whole bunch of pride!

Also, not to be forgotten, is the All-American Derby Trials and Finals on August 19th and September 2nd, respectively. Here, we will see some of the most qualified three-year-old dash around the Ruidoso Downs track in hopes of taking home first place. The derby trials will be available to you LIVE, exclusively through RIDE TV GO, and the finals will be broadcasted LIVE on both RIDE TV GO and the linear network!
