Adventure Is Out There: Exploring the world #BetweenTheEars of a Horse

We love all of the horse #betweentheears photos we’ve received lately, but it’s been giving us a sense of wanderlust at the office. If you’re itching to travel somewhere new and exciting too, check out our ideas for horseback vacation spots:

  • Bryce Canyon: This national park in southern Utah is sure to inspire with gorgeous views of hoodoos, or crimson rock spire formations. Ruby’s Horseback Adventures offers guided tours with stories about when cowboys and outlaws like Butch Cassidy roamed the trails with their four-legged companions. Rides will provide views of sites like Boat Mesa, Sinking Ship Peak, Fairyland Amphitheater, and the Red Canyon. “Ruby’s” offers tours ranging from 1 to 3 hours hours, as well as full-day trips to the Grand Staircase that can last as long as 9 hours.

  • Marriott Ranch: The Marriott family knows hospitality, but this Virginia bed and breakfast will transport you back in time to life in a western Manor House. The Ranch features jeep tours, clay-target shooting, cook-outs, and fly-fishing. The Marriott Ranch is conveniently located near Shenandoah National Park, which offers over a dozen wineries and a river for tubing or canoeing. Of course the best way to explore these 4,200 acre Blue Ridge Mountain foothills is horseback! Take a 90 minute tour or spend a few days exploring the woods, creeks, and pastures with grazing cattle while embracing the “out west experience… back east convenience.”

  • Biltmore Estate: This North Carolina mansion and former home to the Vanderbilt family is sure to take your breath away. Take some time away to tour the 250 room chateau, complete with a bowling alley, conservatory and rose garden, working farm, and 7 story dining hall. The location also has a winery, spots for fly-fishing, carriage rides, and river float trips. Bring your own horse to venture out on the 80 miles of estate trails, or take a 1, 2, or 3 hour guided tour. This is one location where you are sure to be busy!

  • Haleakala National Park: If you’re looking for a more exotic getaway, escape to the island of Maui for a visit to Haleakala, the site of the world’s largest dormant volcano. The park ranges in elevation with sites up to 10,000 feet above sea level and features a combination of tropical rainforest, barren volcanic landscapes, and views of the ocean. Embrace your inner “Paniolo” spirit by exploring the park on a Sunset tour through Makena Stables. The ride offers views of neighboring islands of Lanai, Molokai, and Hawaii, La Perouse Bay which is the site of the last lava flow, and the south slopes of Haleakala while traveling through Ulupalakua Ranch. These hour and a half tours are suitable for all skill levels and include a break for fruit, snacks, and water at Kalua O Lapa. There also may be season opportunities for dolphin, whale, or Axis deer sightings.

Let us know if you have the chance to venture to one of these incredible locations. If not, we hope you satisfy your craving to hop on a saddle and enjoy a ride wherever the trail may take you! Be sure to keep sending in your #BetweenTheEars pictures so we can share the journey with you.

Wishing you all a great weekend!

Sincerely, your Ride TV intern, Taylor Hardy
