Legendary Quarter Horses and superior Black Angus cattle are hallmarks of “The Four Sixes,” a historic Texas ranch that is part of Burnett Ranches LLC, owned by Mrs. Anne W. Marion, the great-granddaughter of the ranch's founder: Captain Samuel “Burk” Burnett. The ranch stands some of the most well-respected Quarter Horse stallions in the industry, with elite broodmares that produce some of the best race, ranch and sale horses available anywhere.

The Burnett holdings cover 275,000 acres on two Texas ranches: the 6666 Ranch (headquarters), near Guthrie, and the Dixon Creek Ranch, between Panhandle and Borger – both located in the western half of the state. The ranch is dedicated to superior water and range management practices, working as much as possible to reclaim land for native grasses and restore or improve natural water resources. The ranch is wildlife friendly, carefully maintaining a moderate stocking rate of about 30 acres per cow/calf pair. This ensures survival in drought conditions and keeps horses and cattle at their healthy best.

Ever since Captain Samuel “Burk” Burnett in 1868 purchased that first 100 head of cattle wearing the “6666” brand from Frank Crowley of Denton, Texas, brands have played an important role at The Four Sixes. Captain Burnett also purchased the rights to that now-famous brand, realizing that its “open 6” design would be easy to fashion into irons, while the brands themselves would be difficult to alter by unscrupulous cattle thieves.

The 6666 brand is used on ranch cattle and applied at the same time that vaccinations are given and other procedures are performed on the individual – everything is usually done in less than 30 seconds.

Our American Quarter Horses are consistently ranked among the best in the breed, as evidenced by our receipt of the AQHA Best Remuda Award and as an AQHA All-Time Leading Breeder of Performance Horses and Race Money-Earners and Winners. A steady stream of champion performance, race and ranch horses bred and produced by the 6666s and our clients are often featured in the news.

The 6666s stands some of the most well-respected stallions in the equine industry, including the finest cutting, reining, ranch horses and all-around performance-bred stallions available anywhere.

The same holds true for the Quarter Horse racing operation, with a stable full of All-American Futurity winners and World Champions. In addition, the 6666’s mares form an elite broodmare band that produces some of the top young prospects available, many of which are marketed each year at premier auctions at home and across the country. Check out our stallions and our sale horses for proof of what we have to offer.

A true working cattle ranch, the 6666's brings more than 100 years of superior cattle breeding expertise to our new Black Angus cattle program. In fact, you might say our cattle have 140 years of background – ever since Captain Samuel “Burk” Burnett purchased those first 100 head wearing the “6666” brand from Frank Crowley of Denton, Texas, way back in 1868.

The genetics on our cattle are as good as you will find anywhere. Our 10,000 Angus and Black Baldy mother cows consistently produce animals with a moderate frame, good temperament and exceptional feedlot performance. We keep our own replacement heifers and purchase the best quality Black Angus bulls available, stocking one bull for each 15 cows. Furthermore, we cull the bulls based on quality about twice a year.

The Four Sixes offers a full range of equine veterinary services at its modern, state-of-the-art medical facilities located at the main headquarters just west of Guthrie. Each year, more than 1,200 mares are bred from ranch, performance and racing Quarter Horse disciplines, while maintaining a 95% conception rate. The professional, highly-qualified staff not only cares for horses housed at the ranch, but welcomes horses from outside clients, as well.
