Five Survival Tips for Singles on Valentine's Day
We all remember how fun Valentine’s Day was as a child- class parties, countless Valentines, and no pressure from grandma to find “the one.” This Hallmark schemed holiday can be an obnoxious reminder that you are very, very single, and honestly, it can be extremely depressing. However, I am here to help you get through this day of love with some mighty tips that will reverse your attitude and hopefully make it a day that you actually end up loving.
1. Get with your Single Ladies (and Guys) and Do Something!
Sometimes it can feel like everyone you know is either married or in a relationship, but try to weed out those love birds and round up your single friends and schedule a fun night out. Go line dancing, or see if there are any local bands playing in your area to check out. You all could even try something new and enticing, like indoor skydiving or a cooking class. Anything you can do to get out and make memories with your friends will ensure that your night is one to remember.
2. Go to a Unique Workout Class
Now at first glance, this might sound like an awful idea, but give it a chance. Working out can actually be a lot of fun and a great way to distract yourself! For example, saddle up and go try a yoga or spin class. They will push you in a way that you have never been pushed, but it will be a blast. Some other fun workouts that will help you work up a sweat are boxing, swimming, and Pilates. Participating in an activity and focusing solely on self- improvement is a fantastic way to keep your mind off of the Valentine’s Day buzz.
3. Get off Social Media
Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat… I bet you know at least two of these social media platforms, and I bet you have friends on there that will be posting about how much they love their significant other all day. Therefore, you should stay off of social media and focus on yourself. One of the hardest things about social media is not comparing yourself to your friends. I know I am guilty of doing this, and it makes me feel like I am doing something wrong. Since Valentine’s Day can be sensitive, try to stray away from your Facebook account and maybe open a real book.
4. Spoil Yourself
You don’t need someone else to spoil you - do it yourself! Is there an item you are on the fence about purchasing? Are there a new pair of boots that have caught your eye? Now is the time to purchase them and fulfill those desires. If you do not have a specific item, go to Target because you will definitely find something there. Some other spoilers you could do would be to get a massage or even get a pedicure (boys you can get them too). This is the one day where you can spoil yourself and you shouldn’t feel bad. Plus, don’t you think you deserve it?
5. Don’t Forget...
In the end, Valentine’s Day is just another day of the year. How you handle it can make the difference between a horrid day and a remarkable one. Make sure that you remember how valuable you are and that sometimes YOU are all you need. Embrace the day and use it to become a better you. Of course you can still love somebody special, but make sure to love yourself, as well! Don’t forget, your horse(s) make terrific Valentine’s dates, so be sure to take your horse on a trail ride or two.
